Due to lack of rain in Solan district, the worries of farmers have increased. Deputy Director Shivali Thakur said that there has not been enough rain in Solan for some time, due to which farmers’ fields are on the verge of drying up. Farmers are worried due to lack of moisture required for sowing and are hoping for rain every day. But at present there does not seem to be any hope.
The Horticulture Department has issued an advisory for farmers. In which they have been given suggestions regarding measures to maintain the moisture of the fields. Shivali Thakur said that farmers have been requested to take appropriate steps to maintain the moisture of the fields otherwise they may suffer huge losses in the near future.
He told that due to lack of rain, farmers are not able to sow Rabi crops. Besides, moisture from the fields is also decreasing. In such a situation, farmers have been advised to mulch the grass in the fields. Planting a layer of grass on one hand will protect the fields from fog, while on the other hand moisture will also be maintained. With this, farmers will be able to sow after a little rain.
